AFAID 2013

On 8 September 2013, I went to Anime Festival Asia (AFA) Indonesia in Jakarta Convention Center. Honestly I want to go on 7 September to watch BabyMetal and Kalafina, but due to budget constraint, I thought I must pass the chance to watch I Love Anisong stage. I choose to went on 8 September because there would be TM Revolution as guest star (even though he's not performing) and also there is a screening of Detective Conan Movie 17. I'm not lucky. T^T. There was a signing session with TM Revolution for the first 100 people but since I didn't anticipate it, I didn't bring anything to be signed. If I hurried myself to bought poster or CD, I must left the queue and the balance of probability is I would not get to meet TM Revolution because there's so many people queuing in front and behind me. That's why I choose to watch Detective Conan Movie 17 instead. He he he. Here are some pictures that I took there:

Anyway, I really enjoy it. Detective Conan Movie that I watch is superb (hence, I download all other Detective Conan Movies as soon as I got home >///<).

Museum Week 2013

On 1 September 2013, I went to Senayan City to see Museum Week 2013. In this event, 13 museums showcased some of their collection. They also held some interesting activities such as demonstration on how Asmat tribe carve a sculpture. I really appreciate this event because I think we ought to always remember the history of our nation. Here are some photos that I take:

I hope many more people will be interested to go to museum :D, including you. What do you think about museums in Indonesia? What's hindering you to pay a visit there?

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (Review)

The Mortal Instruments is a series of books written by Cassandra Clare. Even though I always see it in book stores near me, I've never want to read it. This is because I thought this series would be similar to Twilight, with more romance element than fantasy. But when the movie came out, I decide to watch it. I have nothing to do anyway. Moreover, one of my favorite actor - Jonathan Rhys Meyer-, is in the movie. Now I will tell you my opinion about it.

Honestly, this movie is quite good, made me want to at least borrow the books.Well, even though I have many "meh" moment when I watch it. The premise is interesting enough. Even though I would say that the premise of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are more engaging. The evil here is a shadowhunter named Valentine Morgenstern who want to cleanse the world from downworlders (wereworf, warlock, etc). A little bit remind me of Voldemort (since he want to cleanse all wizard that was born from muggles). The fantasy element in this movie is entertaining enough but the romance is lame. The romantic scene between the main character, Clarys and Jace, is without passion or chemistry (that's why I go "meh" in several scenes). But for spending your spare time, for me this movie is not a bad choice. That's it. How about you?

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters (Review)

As an avid reader of Percy Jackson series, I have many complains about this movie. They still change the story, make it pretty lame. Still on the same level with the first movie even though a little bit less annoying.

You ask me what's wrong with this movie? There are so many things that I can't bother to mention them all. What I hate the most is when they insert a scene where Annabeth is mortally wounded in battle, that incident is not in the book. What's the point of this scene? Makes us sad, emotional, or what? This scene is not working because they already have the Golden Fleece that can cure anything, hence the audience know that she will not die. But other than that, this movie actually is good enough to entertain me. The fanatic reader of the book will be disappointed, but if you haven't read the book, maybe you'll like this movie and think it is cool.

Elysium (Review)

Two weeks ago, I have a chance to watch Elysium in cinema. I was really excited because I've heard that it's a good movie. Moreover, Matt Damon and Jodie Foster are among my favorite actors. Maybe that's why my expectation before I watch this movie was pretty high.

Honestly, I'm a little bit disappointed. I thought this movie was going to have many layers but it's actually pretty simple. The story is about earth in the future where two classes of people exist. The very wealthy, who live on a luxurious space station called Elysium and the poor, who live on devastated earth. I would like to see more about Elysium but unfortunately this movie only show a little bit of it. For me, the contrast differences between Elysium & Earth is not working because it's too black-and-white hence made it rather unbelievable. Despite its pretty visual, l think the story is a little bit shallow.

The main source of conflict here are the MedPods, a man-sized medical devices which looks like a bed in every Elysium homes that keep Elysium people free from disease. Meanwhile hospitals in Earth is too crowded and without enough resource. I don't like the fact that technology in health sector in this movie is far more developed than any other technology. Those MedPods can heal ANY disease and disability. Like when you have cancer, or suffer from polio or get injury from accident, the MedPod will heal you instantly. Seems very legit. It states in the movie that people in the Elysium never get old. Oh my, really? l want to know how people in Elysium overcome the rising population problem since they never get old, free from all diseases  (thanks to MedPod) and probably none of them die, unless they get accident on Earth.

Other than MedPod and the shallow description of People in Elysium, I feel this movie is fine. l advice you to watch it without too much expectation.
