The Croods (Movie Review)

Yesterday I have a bit of spare time. So I didn't go home after my work time was end but went directly to Blitzmegaplex Grand Indonesia (by TransJakarta Bus as usual. I still want to moan about traffic jam in Jakarta but I know you're not interested so let's just talk about the movie).

I don't know whether it's just because I got stuck in Jakarta traffic jam (which made me almost late to watch this movie) or because I was just pretty tired, my mood was grim and watching this didn't improve my mood. There are plenty of reasons that made me move my ass to cinema. First, it's a DreamWorks animation. Second, I hear good review about this film. Third, I was bored and hope to be entertained. But maybe I'm just too old to watch this stuff anymore.

I would write the bad things first. This movie, in my humble opinion, is not emotionally moving. The scene where Eep and his father finally said their love for each other felt fake and not sincere. I just don't know why.   There are plenty of things that, in my opinion, illogical. Well, but of course it is, this is not the type of movie to be taken seriously. Just like when I watched Rise of the Guardians last year.

On the bright sight, the visual of this film is really good. They create a world with cute and magnificent creatures. It's lovely. This film does have lots of funny scenes like "Release the Baby!!". And Belt is really a cute creature. I want him to be my pet. I want the tiger to be my pet too. Ho ho ho. In the end, The Croods is still a pretty entertaining movie. Worth to watch but maybe you will forget it in a couple of days. That's all I  can say. Let end this with Belt style. "Ta ta ta!!"

Planetarium

As you could read from my profile, my former dream was to be an astronaut. I really love sky and pretty much all the stuff in the space. Star, moon, planets, although I really love to see them but I've never go to planetarium before. That's why last Saturday I went to Planetarium Jakarta in Taman Ismail Marzuki after I attended my Conversation Class in EF. Contrary to my expectation, this place was really crowded in the weekend. Wow... I thought there won't be many people that would like to go to planetarium. Boy, how silly I am. It's pretty cheap. Rp. 7000,- for adult and Rp 3500,- for child.

Half of the queue to purchase Planetarium show ticket
The show itself was great... if only I didn't know 80% of what they said. He he he.. As I said, I love space objects so it's not a surprise if I know a little bit about it. But it's still pretty good for me. Most of the planetarium visitor was children so it's hilarious to hear how they really excited each time constellation, planet, or galaxy appeared in Planetarium dome. It makes me want to bring my little brother and cousins to go there. The show duration was about 45 minutes.

Planetarium dome. When the show started, the night sky appeared in it.
If you're interested to go to planetarium, here are the show time:

The tickets start to be sale 1 hour before the show time
Overall, went to planetarium was lovely. If only they have a more deep and comprehensive video about the space. It would be lovely to know more about black hole, galaxies or Van Buren Supernova. He he he. But maybe I'm asking too much.

Have you ever go to planetarium? Tell me your experience too!

Jack The Giant Slayer (Movie Review)

So 2 days ago, out of the blue I went to cinema to watch movie. Usually I don't like to go anywhere on weekdays because Jakarta traffic is crazy. But on last Friday, Jack the Giant Slayer was screened for the first time and I got a bit of spare time. Moreover, it's based on well-known fairy tale (not for me though) and there are Nicholas Hoult (X-Men First Class) and Ewan McGregor in it >///<.

The pace of the story is fast enough. All of the acting is good. Stanley Tucci is interesting enough as a villain. The cinematography and the CGI is good, but not great. A class beneath Life of Pi or The Hobbit, so the giants is believable enough but not looks real. I think it's okay considering the target audience is family and their kids. The kids would be frighten if the giants looks real.  I kind of hope an epic scene of war between Giants and human but there isn't. So it's kinda felt like the climax is not enough for me. What I don't like in this film is the character of the princess that supposed to be smart. In the beginning of the movie she was asking the King to stop sending guardian to guard her and insist to go on her adventure alone because she's strong enough to guard herself. Hell no. She always need someone else to rescue her. But this is only my own opinion, because I hate weak female character, moreover when she was supposed to be a strong one.

Despite all of that I think Jack the Giant Slayer is a good movie. It's entertaining enough as long as you don't come with hope that you would get something to contemplate about. This is the kind of movie that just need you to sit down, watch and get thrill without thinking anything - just like a lot of other typical Hollywood movies. Go to cinema to watch it if you get free time and tell me what's your opinion about this movie too!
